April 17, 2007 Google still dominates UK search market
share but with a gain of 4%!
The last time I updated the figures was for SES UK just
under a year ago. Since then, Google has gained 4.08%, up from
75.3% to 79.38% of the UK search market.

May 20, 2006: Google dominates UK search engine market
share!
Google's share of the online search market was 74.8 per cent in
March, but has increased to 75.3% according to web monitoring firm Hitwise.
MSN is Google's closest competitor, powering 7.8 per cent of all
UK internet searches.
Yahoo was third with a 7.5 per cent share, followed by Ask with
5.6 per cent.
The top four search engines powered nearly 96 per cent of UK
internet searches last month.

NEW YORK– April 24, 2006 – Nielsen//NetRatings, a global leader in Internet media and market research, today announced that year over year, searches on Google and Yahoo! grew 41 percent and 47 percent, respectively, outpacing the overall search growth rate of 36 percent. Google’s searches increased from 2.1 billion in March 2005 to 2.9 billion in March 2006, while in the same time period Yahoo’s searches increased from 907.8 million to 1.3 billion. The No. 3 search provider, MSN, saw a 9 percent year-over-year growth in searches, from 592.2 million to 643.8 million.
Search Market Share Gains
In March, Google and Yahoo! also gained search market share, increasing two percentage points and one percentage point year over year, respectively. Google now accounts for 49 percent of all searches, Yahoo! 22 percent. MSN’s share dropped slightly, from 14 to 11 percent.“As the recognized leaders in the search market, Google and Yahoo! continue to gain ground as new features, such as instant search suggestions and video search, heighten loyalty among their users” said Michael Lanz, vice president, search industry solutions, Nielsen//NetRatings. “To compete, other search providers must be equally innovative and build consumer trust in their search results,” he continued.

The chart below shows the percentage of online searches done by US home and work web surfers in May 2005 that were performed at a particular search engine. Internal site searches, such as those to find material within a particular web site, are not counted in these totals. The activity at more than 60 search sites makes up the total search volume upon which percentages are based -- 4.3 billion searches in this month.
